THE FLASH is the second DC TV series that is part of The CW's "Arrow-verse" of superheroes. After being struck by lightning, Crime Scene Investigator Barry Allen, who has devoted his life to seeking justice and proving his father's innocence in the murder of his mother as a child, awakens from a nine-month coma to discover he has been granted the gift of super speed. Teaming up with S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry takes on the persona of The Flash, the Fastest Man Alive, to protect his city. Thanks to the Particle Accelerator incident at S.T.A.R. Labs that contributed to Barry getting his powers, Central City has become a hotbed of meta-human activity. These super powered people now use their abilities to their benefit or devices, while Barry and Team Flash recruit others who wish to use their gifts to protect and serve their city and the world.
Barry leans on his family, friends, and allies to devise plans to take down villains and save the city, as well as discover new ways for The Flash to maximize his speed and skillset. They have battled a wide range of DC villains, from speedsters The Reverse Flash, Zoom, and Savitar, to metas like Mirror Master and The Thinker, to the outrageously powerful King Shark and Gorilla Grodd. Barry's ability to run at such a speeds that he can breach into other parallel earths has opened the Arrow-verse to new worlds and the concept of the Multi-Verse, which features alternate realities and versions of Earth-1's characters. His extraordinary abilities also allow him to time travel, which he learns can have devastating outcomes on all of those he holds dear.

Need to catch up a bit? Here's an overview of what went down in season three. **SPOILERS AHEAD**
Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. But when Barry used his extraordinary abilities to travel back in time and save his mother’s life, he inadvertently created an alternate timeline known as Flashpoint; a phenomenon that gave birth to the villainous speed god known as Savitar, and changed the lives of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Wally West (Keiyan Lonsdale) forever. With the help of his adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), his lifelong best friend and love interest Iris West (Candice Patton), and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs -- Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), C.S.I. Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and an Earth-19 novelist named H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) -- Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it. After a showdown with Savitar, Barry chooses to enter a prison within that which grants him his powers, the Speed Force, in order to stabilize it and to save the city from destruction. Iris and Team Flash enter season four looking for a way to free Barry, and do so to find a damaged, yet newly reborn and recharged Flash.
