Volkswagen is hoping that the its new SUV will be the vehicle that makes Chattanooga famous, and shift the focus from the emissions scandal that plagued it's diesel Passat.
The new Atlas is rolling off the assembly line at Enterprise South.
NewsChannel 9 got inside for a test drive to see how the Chattanooga plant is focusing on the future, instead of the past.
Michael Fetter is over the launch of the Atlas. He showed us the S-U-V that will hit dealerships in late May, that sparked an expanded assembly line and 2,000 new jobs.
The first thing you may notice about the Atlas is the short hangovers in the front and back.
The wide wheel base gives the suspension a more sporty ride.
The SUV has two engine choices, a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo kicking out 235 horsepower, and a 3-point-6 V-6 with 276 horsepower.
It even has a feature at stoplights to turn off the engine to save gas.
Here at the Chattanooga plant, they say they are focused on building cars, while other parts of the company had to deal with legal backlash.
