It's hard to believe, but the new year is in full swing and we've already reached the midseason winter hiatus of another broadcast television season. Despite the cold outside, things are heating up with CW18's primetime thanks to renewal announcements, new shows, and big moves looming large.
The CW Network delivered a final holiday gift with the announcement that it has renewed 13 of its current scripted series for the 2020-2021 season. Early renewals are fairly commonplace for the network in recent years, but this move is unprecedented as they renewed the entire scripted drama library not including the series -- ARROW, SUPERNATURAL, and THE 100 -- which are already announced to be in their final seasons. Said former President and newly minted CEO and Chairman Mark Pedowitz regarding the sweeping pick-ups,
These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season. We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for NANCY DREW and BATWOMAN.
The current fall lineup series being ordered for the 2020-2021 season include second seasons of rookies BATWOMAN and NANCY DREW, as well as ALL AMERICAN (Season 3), BLACK LIGHTNING (Season 4), CHARMED (Season 3), DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Season 6), DYNASTY (Season 4), THE FLASH (Season 7), LEGACIES (Season 3), RIVERDALE (Season 5), and SUPERGIRL (Season 6). Also included ahead of their 2019-20 season debuts are additional orders for IN THE DARK (Season 3) and ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (Season 3). Specific premiere dates for each series will be announced at a later time.
In the immediate future, fans can rest assured that the winter hiatus for the fall lineup is about to end. The second-to-last chapter of ARROW and a special installment of DC's LEGENDS deliver the two-part conclusion of the epic "Crisis On Infinite Earths" Arrowverse crossover Tuesday, January 14th starting at 7pm.
January 15th will reveal who the goodest boy is during The CW Dog Honors at 7pm, and NANCY DREW returns to delve deeper into the haunting mysteries of Horseshoe Bay at 8pm. Back for an all-new season of fun, the crew of DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW arrives via the Waverider for the season premiere on Tuesday, January 21st.
Unfortunately, the end of the hiatus also brings the end of a series near and dear to our hearts. ARROW's ninth episode of the season on January 21st will be a backdoor pilot for the proposed GREEN ARROW AND THE CANARIES series centering around Oliver and Felicity's daughter, Mia Queen; and the O-G foundation of the Arrowverse will take its final bow after eight seasons during a full night event on January 28th. These dreamers will chase careers in the Big Apple while forging long-lasting friendships in the process. The newcomer already received an order for an additional 13 scripts from The CW.
