How 'bout 'dat?! "The Man That Made Milwaukee Famous" will be honored when a life-sized bronze statue of South Milwaukee's own Reggie "The Crusher" Lisowski is unveiled at Crusherfest in his hometown June 8-9th.
Upon the professional wresting icon's death in 2005, The Washington Post described him as "a professional wrestler whose blue-collar bona fides made him beloved among working class fans for 40 years." Among those fans is Oak Creek's Chris Smith, who created the GoFundMe fundraising campaign in 2017 that raised $40,000. Those efforts will pay off with a two-day festival of beer, food, polka music, wrestling, and more starting Saturday, June 8th.
As noted by Mr. Smith's website:
'Da Crusher, a World War II Army veteran, embodies the blue-collar, hard-working people of South Milwaukee, and a monument honoring his memory will be a proud landmark for South Milwaukee, southeastern Wisconsin, and all wrestling fans, everywhere -- forever.
While the centerpiece of the weekend's festivities will be the bronze statue's unveiling on Saturday, June 8th at 3pm, guests will have plenty to do at Crusherfest. With longtime ties to various wrestling promotions' programming, CW18 and My24 are thrilled to be a part of Saturday's happenings. We will welcome current RING OF HONOR wrestling stars Silas Young and the Beer City Bruiser to the event to meet fans and sign autographs on Saturday afternoon. The full schedule for both days is below. See you at Crusherfest!
